Asymmetric Systematic Errors
نویسنده
چکیده
Asymmetric systematic errors arise when there is a non-linear dependence of a result on a nuisance parameter. Their combination is traditionally done by adding positive and negative deviations separately in quadrature. There is no sound justification for this, and it is shown that indeed it is sometimes clearly inappropriate. Consistent techniques are given for this combination of errors, and also for evaluating χ, and for forming weighted sums.

Asymmetric Errors
Errors quoted on results are often given in asymmetric form. An account is given of the two ways these can arise in an analysis, and the combination of asymmetric errors is discussed. It is shown that the usual method has no basis and is indeed wrong. For asymmetric systematic errors, a consistent method is given, with detailed examples. For asymmetric statistical errors a general approach is o...
متن کاملOptimal, systematic, q-ary codes correcting all asymmetric and symmetric errors of limited magnitude
Systematic -ary ( ) codes capable of correcting all asymmetric errors of maximum magnitude , where , are given. These codes are shown to be optimal. Further, simple encoding/decoding algorithms are described. The proposed code can be modified to design codes correcting all symmetric errors of maximum magnitude , where .
متن کاملGeneralized Bose-Lin Codes, a Class of Codes Detecting Asymmetric Errors
Bose and Lin introduced a class of systematic codes for detection of binary asymmetric errors. Later, in [4] this class was generalized and the Generalized Bose-Lin (GBL) codes were introduced. In this note, we describe a Generalized Bose-Lin codes of limited magnitude l. For these codes, the possible undetectable errors are characterized, the undetectable errors of minimum weight are determine...
متن کاملSingle Facility Goal Location Problems with Symmetric and Asymmetric Penalty Functions
Location theory is an interstice field of optimization and operations research. In the classic location models, the goal is finding the location of one or more facilities such that some criteria such as transportation cost, the sum of distances passed by clients, total service time, and cost of servicing are minimized. The goal Weber location problem is a special case of location mode...
متن کاملAveraging Measurements with Hidden Correlations and Asymmetric Errors
In practical applications, however, one is often confronted with the problem that the measurement errors which are quoted define a 68% confidence level interval around a Maximum Likelihood estimate, whereas one would need an unbiased estimator with its standard deviation in order to form a weighted average. In addition, one usually has to deal with statistical and systematic uncertainties, and ...
